Water retention is when there is a buildup of water in the tissues and spaces between cells.

Water retention results from excess pressure on the blood vessels. Water then begins to leak into the surrounding tissue.

There are many known causes of water retention. The biggest cause of it is actually from not drinking enough water. When you don’t give your body adequate amounts of water, it will begin to store water in the tissues for survival. When you supply your body with regular glasses of water it will stop storing water.

Diet also plays a major role in water retention. Salt is one of the biggest food related causes. Too much processed salt in the body causes the water inside the cells to come out to dilute the excess salt. To remove access salt, you need to drink lots of fresh water so it can be flushed out your liver and kidneys.

Other foods and liquids like excess sugar, toxins in the body and alcohol cause retention by putting strain on your kidneys and slows them down.

Other than diet it is also important that you have healthy kidneys, as kidney disease and other complications all contribute to water retention. The other factor is exercise, which helps keep the lymphatic system active which is essential for removing access fluid from the bodies tissues.

How does water retention affect acne?

The pressure on the skin cells that water retention produces, causes the pores of the skin to become blocked. Inside these trapped pores, bacteria mixes with skin oil, dead skin cells, and toxins to cause acne.

If you also happen to have over-productive sebum producing glands, you could potentially have quite serious acne.

How do you combat water retention?
* As you read a little earlier, it could be as simple as drinking more water. 6-8 glasses a day would be a good rule of thumb.

* Exercising for at least 30 minutes each day to stimulate the lymph and promote healthy elimination of toxins and body waste.

* Going easy on food additives such as sugar and salt. If you do eat excessivly salty foods, be sure to drink plenty of water afterwards.

There are other methods to reducing water retention. One of them is by using diuretics. These cause excess water to be expeled from the body. There are many types of diuretics.

Cucumber juice is know to be an excellent diuretic. Herbs such as Dandelion leaf have also been known for hundreds of years as diuretic in effect.

Daily exercise can be extremely beneficial to your overall skin health and can also help clear it of acne too.
Regular exercise increases the flow of blood and oxygen to the skin cells. When you sweat, your body expells toxins through the skin with ease from the opened pores. Sweating effectively cleans the pores from dirt, dead skin cells and excess sebum.
When you exercise, your kidneys and liver work more effectively in removing toxins from the body. Stress is also reduced from exercise and both of these are known causes of acne.
It is a good idea after exercising to take a shower. This washes away the sweat and any other waste material ejected from the body. It also prevents the growth of bacteria which is attracted to sweat.
After exercise be sure to drink plenty of water. Water is essential for ridding the body of toxins and to replace all the water lost from sweating. Acne has been shown to occur in people who aren’t drinking enough water.
Almost all exercises are great and the more you sweat the better. Walking, jogging, cycling, swimming and team sports are all suitable. If you can, try to exercise outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine.
Swimming is excellent due to being in water which helps to fully cleanse the pores. It is important to rinse yourself after swimming to clean off the chlorine on your body which can leave your skin really dry.
One of the best exercises for acne is using a mini-trampoline. Jumping on a mini-tramp is beneficial for your lymphatic system. Your lymph is controlled by movement and operates best when exercising.
The lymph provides the cells with the nutrients it needs and is also responsible for removing and eliminating cell waste and toxins. If the lymph is insufficienty activated, the cells swim in their own waste which can block pores and when bacteria starts to grow in blocked pores it causes acne.
It has been reported that rebounding can increase the flow of your lymph by up to 30 times. It has also been stated that rebounding is possibly the best exercise ever invented because it has so many benefits.
Not only does exercise benefit the skin, it also has emotional and mental benefits. It is good for stress relief as stated earlier but also good for keeping the mind focused and active. Apart from exercise, proper sleep and relaxation are also good for reducing stress.

There are several factors that can cause acne, and all of them are related by skin physiology and oily glands. Acne generally occurs when too much oil named sebum is released by sebaceous glands and when this sebum is mixed with dirt and infected with bacteria.

Skin acne bacteria lives normally on the surface of the skin without damaging in any way the skin cells or internal organs. Bacteria usually react to the sebum found excessively in the skin due to the hormonal imbalances. Bacteria get clogged in the pores together with sebum, dirt and dead skin cells. Sweat also contributes to moisturizing the environment and fatty acids that are found in sweat can also affect acne outbreaks. When getting clogged and in this moisturized environment, bacteria flourish.
