Acne has haunted teenagers for many, many years now. The appearance of whiteheads on the face and other parts of the body has always been a headache. Today millions of people of all ages are affected by acne all over the world and millions of dollars are spent yearly in research and skin products.

Whiteheads are little white spots that appear on the body which are caused by excessive oils and dirt blocking the skin’s pores. They are also known as comedones and if left unattended they will swell and produce redness and irritation in the affected area. They are basically hair follicles that are filled with pus and bacteria that can’t be expelled by the body.

Zits or whiteheads must not be touched with the bare hands especially if they are dirty. Squeezing them will normally worsen the situation and will sometimes leave scars and holes where the infection occurred. Leaving them alone is the best medicine for they will eventually disappear.

Problems arise when the person needs to attend a social event and cannot wait for Nature to take its course. Superficial whiteheads can be removed by following theses instructions carefully. Some damage may be caused but if done properly this can be minimized.

5 Easy Steps

Follow these easy five steps to get rid of whiteheads. If done properly the possibility of scaring, infection and broken veins will be reduced to a minimum.

1. Wash face gently with a mild cleanser. Do not rub the skin just wash it gently. Dove and Ivory are two of the best you can purchase for little money at the supermarket.

2. The pores in the affected area must be opened; steam must be applied for this. Boil a pot of water and cover your head up with a towel placing it for 10 minutes over the steam so it hits the affected area. Stay at a comfortable distance from the steam source so as not to burn yourself.

If this is not possible, sitting for ten minutes with a hot towel over your face will also do the job.

3. When this is done, pat your face dry with a soft cloth. Do not rub it dry; touch it lightly with the cloth to avoid further irritation.

4. Using a sterilized whitehead extractor squeeze the whiteheads out. If the process is painful apply a towel or cloth with ice to the affected area so it is numbed and proceed with the extraction.

5. When the whitehead has been removed use an antiseptic on the area to eliminate all traces of pus and bacteria from the face. This will help in the healing process and will also avoid further infection.
